AGC developed a new type of quartz lens to simplify the UV LED process

It is understood that the modified quartz lens can be used to simplify the process of UV LED and reduce the investment of capital cost. The prototype of the quartz mirror will be produced in the third quarter of 2018 and is expected to begin production in 2019.

At present, with mercury to disinfect the air and water, but mercury on the human body and the environment are harmful, "Minamata Convention" (Minamata Convention on Mercury) in August 2017 after the official commencement, mercury lamp production will be affected. The deep ultraviolet LED, which also has the function of disinfection and sterilization, has little influence on the environment, and it is expected to replace the mercury lamp and become the next generation of sterilizing light.However, there are still some problems to be solved in UV LED at present. One of the problems is that the transparent adhesive of quartz lens and window material (Window Material) is quite expensive, and it is easy to be degraded by ultraviolet light. The other is a bonding and window solder (Solder), the manufacturer must have large equipment in anaerobic sealing, and the solder are too hard, packaging and window thermal expansion coefficient and difference caused by thermal stress (Thermal Stress) and damaged packaging and window interface, the UV LED the product has burst and leakage risk.

AGC UV LED quartz lens development can solve two problems, AGC quartz lens and window material integration, so do not need the expensive, easily degradable adhesive. And the special coating (Overlaid) of the solder can be encapsulated in the general environment, and no large oxygen free equipment is needed. In addition, the special coated solder material is soft and can reduce the heating stress, so UV LED has no problem of cracking and air leakage.
