MagnaChip Will Start Mass Production Of New Display Drive Chips

Nov 01, 2018

According to foreign media reports, MagnaChip Semiconductor Corporation announced that it will start mass production of the new Display Driver IC (DDIC) drive chip, which can be used in automobile panel displays.

MagnaChip plans to expand its business to all kinds of vehicle display screens. The application of this kind of liquid crystal screen drive chip products will further expand the automotive applications such as dashboard, GPS navigator and on-board entertainment display screen. Over time, organic light-emitting diode (OLED) display driver will be widely used in various automotive applications.

The new model's vehicle-grade display drive chip, the S8311, has a maximum channel output of 1,440, a minimum low-voltage Differential signal (mLVDS) interface, and supports various types of tft-lcd, including: Screens made of Amorphous silicon (a-si), Low Temperature Poly silicon (LTPS) and Indium Gallium Zinc Oxide (IGZO) can be used in various automotive applications. MagnaChip assembles its products with a process of 150nm, which is a cost-effective method. In recent years, the process has been successfully applied to different products.

According to market research firm IHS, vehicle display shipments are continuing to grow, with the dashboards, central control panels and head-up displays becoming the three largest on-board screen systems. Based on current trends, IHS expects global shipments of vehicle-mounted displays in 2022 to rise from 1 in 2018. 6.5 billion to 200 million.
