"These types of applications are exciting for us because they drive innovation in our technology and allow us to better understand the possibilities and limitations of uv-c LED disinfection," says Rich Simons, AquiSense product development scientist.

AquiSense Technologies, an American UV LED disinfection technology company, has reportedly announced plans to participate in 10 aerospace projects.

In 2015, AquiSense was selected to participate in BIOWYSE, a project of the European Union's Horizon 2020, dedicated to designing and testing water monitoring and treatment systems for the next generation of manned space stations.Since then, several other aerospace programs have been looking for AquiSense's water treatment technology.

These include supplying product design and hardware to private Aerospace companies such as Bigelow Aerospace, Thales Alenia Space Italia, KBR Wyle and Aero Sekur, as well as various NASA groups,That includes Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Johnson Space Center and Marshall Space Flight Center.

These include keeping growing systems clean in space greenhouses, reducing the maintenance burden of biofilm formation in enclosed environments, and disinfecting astronauts' drinking water on the international space station.
